Here's some useful acronyms and abbreviations in use on the railway

Some are more obvious that others :-)

- GF = Ground Frame (manual points)
- HABD = Hot Axle Box Detector
- LC = Level Crossing (optionally with suffix):  
     AHB = Automatic Half Barrier  
     AHBC-X = AHB with reverse direction capability  
     ABCL = Automatic Barrier Crossing, Locally Monitored  
     FP = Footpath  
     R/G = minature Red/Green warning lights  
     R/G-X = Red/Green lights with reverse direction support  
     UWC = User Worked Crossing
- Jn = Junction
- SB = Signal Box
- Station suffixes:  
     L/End = London End  
     C/End = Country End
